Hyderabad: Cyberabad Traffic Police booked 329 drivers during a special drunk driving enforcement operation over the weekend. The drive aimed at curbing inebriated driving saw offenders from various vehicle categories.
According to police data, 248 cases involved two-wheelers, 23 involved three-wheelers, 54 involved four-wheelers, and four involved heavy vehicles. Offenders were categorized by Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels: 283 had BAC between 35–200 mg/100 ml, 37 between 201–300 mg/100 ml, and nine between 301–500 mg/100 ml.
All offenders will be presented before the court.
Police warned that individuals caught driving under the influence, if involved in a fatal crash, will be charged under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 — which classifies such cases as culpable homicide not amounting to murder, carrying a maximum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine.
The Cyberabad Traffic Police urged motorists to drive responsibly and follow road safety regulations.
