NEW DELHI: The Congress Working Committee (CWC) on Thursday passed a resolution strongly condemning the Pahalgam terror attack, accusing Pakistan of masterminding the incident. The party alleged that the attack was a deliberate attempt by terrorists to provoke communal tensions by specifically targeting Hindus.
In its resolution, the CWC described the attack as a cowardly act orchestrated by Pakistan and labelled it a direct assault on the democratic values of the Indian Republic. The party emphasised that such incidents were aimed at stirring religious sentiments across the nation.
Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal stated that the Pahalgam attack was indicative of a severe security and intelligence failure. He called for a comprehensive review of the lapses, especially considering that the incident occurred in a Union Territory under the jurisdiction of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
With the annual Amarnath Yatra approaching, the CWC urged the Centre to immediately prioritise the safety of the lakhs of pilgrims expected to undertake the journey. The committee stressed the need for robust security measures without delay and called on the Union Home Ministry to act with urgency.
The resolution further noted that the livelihoods of the people of Jammu and Kashmir depend heavily on tourism and pilgrimage-related activities. The CWC demanded that the Centre ensure not only the safety of pilgrims but also protect the economic well-being of the region’s residents by undertaking actions in a spirit of genuine national concern.
The committee’s strong stance comes in the wake of heightened tensions and security fears following the latest attack, reinforcing the need for a unified and fortified national response.
