Hyderabad: Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao ordered measures to strengthen the state power distribution system and reduce losses to power distribution companies during a high-level review meeting held at the Secretariat on Friday.
He chaired the second meeting of the State Distribution Reforms Committee to examine and approve Detailed Project Reports submitted under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme and the Dharti Aaba Jana Jatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan.
Senior officials from the Energy and Finance departments, along with heads of power distribution companies, attended the meeting. They presented the status of ongoing reforms, infrastructure strengthening works and proposed modernisation initiatives linked to the state power distribution system.
During the review, the Chief Secretary stressed that loss reduction must remain the central objective of all reform measures. He said steps taken under the state power distribution system should directly lower Aggregate Technical and Commercial losses and improve operational efficiency.
State power distribution system reforms under DPR review
Ramakrishna Rao examined the DPRs in detail. He focused on system strengthening, reduction of AT&C losses, and smart metering implementation. In addition, he reviewed proposals for feeder segregation, infrastructure augmentation and digitisation of distribution networks under the state power distribution system.
He underlined that a robust state power distribution system was essential to sustain industrial growth and agricultural productivity. Moreover, he said reliable distribution infrastructure would support the State’s broader socio-economic development goals.
The committee also discussed financial implications and funding patterns linked to the proposals. It reviewed convergence opportunities with Government of India schemes designed to strengthen the power distribution sector. Officials examined how central assistance could support reforms under the state power distribution system without burdening discom finances.
Energy Special Chief Secretary Navin Mittal, Finance Principal Secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania and Revenue Secretary Lokesh Kumar were present. TGSPDCL CMD Musharaff Ali and TGNPDCL CMD Varun Reddy also attended the meeting along with other senior officials.
The meeting concluded with directions to align proposed works with measurable reform outcomes. The Chief Secretary reiterated that strengthening the state power distribution system remained critical to ensuring reliable and efficient electricity supply across Telangana.
