CPM demands scrapping of GO-49 over tribal land concerns

Hyderabad: CPM central committee member Thammineni Veerabhadram demanded the immediate withdrawal of Government Order 49, alleging that it was introduced to transfer tribal farmlands to corporate companies.

He was speaking at the inauguration of a political training programme for party workers from Adilabad, Kumram Bheem, Mancherial, and Nirmal districts at the Sundarayya Vignana Kendram in Hyderabad.

Veerabhadram said both the central and state governments were using the proposed tiger reserve corridor as a pretext to evict Adivasi farmers and reallocate their lands to private entities.

He claimed a similar pattern was seen in Chhattisgarh, where four lakh acres of forest land were handed over to the Adani Group.

He also criticised the Congress for failing to fulfil its pre-election promises and accused the government of deploying forest officials to harass podu cultivators with cases and attacks.
