CPI leader rebukes Revanth Reddy for ‘salt’ remark on Communists

Hyderabad: CPI state secretary and Kothagudem MLA Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao on Sunday criticised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for comparing Communists to salt, stating that Communists are “like fire, not seasoning.”

Speaking at a memorial event in Yellandu town’s JK Colony to mark the first death anniversary of CPI veteran Epuri Brahmam, Koonamneni said Revanth Reddy’s analogy was inappropriate. “Communists have a 100-year history of struggle. They have always stood for workers, farmers and the poor people,” he said.

He reminded the gathering that Communists played a crucial role in India’s fight against injustice, even before independence. Sambasiva Rao also recalled Epuri Brahmam’s contributions to the CPI in the Illendu region.

CPI says Revanth Reddy underestimated party’s legacy

The CPI leader responded to the Chief Minister’s comment that “Communists are like salt—less salt spoils the curry,” calling it dismissive. He emphasised that only Communists consistently fight for marginalised communities, unlike other parties that come and go.

Later, Sambasiva Rao unveiled a memorial pillar for Epuri Brahmam and garlanded the statue of B.R. Ambedkar at the same venue. CPI district secretary Shabbir Pasha, Khammam leader Hemanth Rao, constituency in-charge K. Sarayya, and other district and local leaders attended the event.
