Hyderabad: Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar on Monday urged Peace Committees to act as a bridge between the police and the public. He said this coordination is vital to preserve Hyderabad’s communal harmony and ensure a crime-free city.
Earlier, he addressed a coordination meeting of the Central Peace and Welfare Committee at the Telangana Integrated Command Control Centre in Banjara Hills. During the meeting, he described Hyderabad as a “towering testimony to communal harmony.” He further stressed that every citizen shares responsibility in protecting the city’s unique Ganga-Jamuna Tehzeeb.
Importantly, Sajjanar recalled that Peace Committees, established in 1984, have played a crucial role in maintaining law and order. Over the decades, they helped sustain peace and stability. As a result, Hyderabad emerged as a global development hub.
Peace Committees to strengthen field coordination
Ahead of upcoming festivals, Sajjanar urged Peace Committees to ensure coordination at the ground level. He said celebrations must reflect unity and brotherhood across communities. At the same time, he warned against false propaganda and social media rumours.
Moreover, he asked members to immediately counter misinformation with verified facts. Otherwise, such rumours could trigger unnecessary panic and tension.
In addition, the meeting reviewed steps to combat cybercrime and curb the drug menace. According to Sajjanar, strengthening the bond between people and police remains essential.
Therefore, authorities will now hold mandatory Peace Committee meetings at the zonal level once every three months to improve coordination.
