Couple dies by suicide after consuming pesticide in Kamareddy

Hyderabad: A couple died by suicide in Kamareddy district after consuming pesticide following a domestic quarrel.

The deceased were identified as Chakali Sujatha (33) and Gangaram (38), residents of Kolpol village in Lingampet mandal. The couple, both daily wage labourers, had been working at an agricultural field in Shivayipalli under Rajampet mandal for the past month.

Police said frequent arguments had been taking place between them, reportedly due to financial difficulties. Sujatha’s brother Bhumayya had been intervening to resolve their disputes.

On June 29, the couple allegedly consumed pesticide in a fit of anger after yet another argument. Their son, Ramcharan, alerted his maternal uncle, who, along with the landowner, rushed them to Kamareddy hospital.

They were later shifted to the Nizamabad Government Hospital for further treatment. Sujatha died on Monday, and Gangaram succumbed on Tuesday.

Based on a complaint filed by Bhumayya, police have registered a case and are investigating.
