Hyderabad: Telangana Minister and senior Congress leader Uttam Kumar Reddy on Saturday expressed grief over the death of Kurri Srinivas, a party worker from his constituency, who was killed in a road accident while returning from the Congress workers convention held at LB Stadium in Hyderabad. Reddy called the death a personal loss and said it had left him deeply saddened.
Srinivas, a Dalit leader from Chennaipalem village in Suryapet district, had travelled to Hyderabad with approximately 2,000 Congress workers from the area to attend the convention. The accident took place while he was returning to his village after the meeting.
On Saturday, Minister Reddy visited the family home to pay his last respects. He handed over ₹10 lakh in financial aid, contributed jointly by himself and the Congress Party. He assured Srinivas’s widow of a suitable job and promised to support the education of their daughters.
Describing Srinivas as a dedicated and active party organiser, Reddy said he had always considered Congress workers in his constituency as family. “His death is a huge loss to the party and a personal blow to me,” he said.
