Hyderabad: The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has warned that fake news in Hyderabad could raise communal tensions ahead of the Jubilee Hills by-election. This warning came after Cybercrime Police filed a case over false political clippings aimed at Congress candidate Naveen Yadav.
FIR registered over communal misinformation
On Tuesday, Basheerbagh Cybercrime Police booked a case (FIR No. 1948/2025) under Sections 353(2), 352, and 336(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). TPCC spokesperson Syed Nizamuddin filed the complaint, stating that some users were spreading videos and images falsely linking controversial remarks to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and other party leaders.
He said these clippings were clearly meant to mislead voters and stir communal tensions. The false material spread quickly on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter), through several accounts and groups.
Nizamuddin warned that this kind of content could break public trust and damage the peaceful atmosphere during the election period.
Congress seeks strong action, urges caution from public
Sub-Inspector T. Vinay Kumar is leading the investigation. Police are working to find out who created and spread the misleading material.
Speaking to reporters, Nizamuddin thanked Hyderabad Police for acting quickly. He said Congress would file more legal cases if any group or person used fake or communal content during the election.
“These clippings are not just wrong they are harmful. They confuse voters and create fear,” he said.
He also asked citizens to check facts before sharing any political content. “This is a plan to divide people. Let’s stay calm and not fall for these tricks,” he added.
BRS accused of fake news as popularity declines
Nizamuddin said Congress candidate Naveen Yadav would win the Jubilee Hills by-election with a clear lead. He blamed BRS leaders for pushing fake news because they are losing public support.
He said the Congress party is closely watching social media and will take strong action to stop more false campaigns.
