Hyderabad: Congress legislators and corporators from Hyderabad held separate meetings with GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi and Commissioner R V Karnan. They raised objections and submitted representations regarding the ongoing GHMC division reorganisation.
The delegation included MLAs Danam Nagender, Arikepudi Gandhi, and Prakash, along with MLC Balmuri Venkata, several corporators, and ex-officio members. They met the Mayor and Commissioner separately to discuss the impact of the revised boundaries on their divisions.
During the interactions, the representatives conveyed grievances and concerns about the proposed changes. Mayor Vijayalakshmi informed them that a special General Body Meeting scheduled for Tuesday would offer members the opportunity to voice their suggestions, objections, and feedback on the GHMC division reorganisation.
She assured that all input received in the meeting would be compiled and submitted to the state government for further consideration.
Following the meetings, the MLAs told the media that they had submitted a formal representation with detailed boundary markings. They also demanded an explanation of the criteria used in the reorganisation process.
The Telangana government had recently issued orders directing a reorganisation of GHMC divisions, increasing the number to 300. The new boundaries were notified through a gazette released several days ago. Compared to the previous structure, the number of divisions in the core GHMC area has significantly increased. This prompted objections from some quarters over the redrawn limits and newly formed divisions.
In light of these developments, Congress leaders sought clarity and raised concerns directly with the GHMC leadership.
