Hyderabad: Telangana Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Friday described late Congress leader Nizamuddin as an enduring icon of the party in Huzurnagar, calling his lifelong allegiance to Congress a model of principled commitment.
Speaking at a memorial meeting in Huzurnagar, Uttam Kumar Reddy said Nizamuddin’s three-decade tenure—ranging from sarpanch to ZPTC member to minority district Congress president—was marked by unshaken loyalty through politically adverse times. “He never wavered,” Reddy said. “He died believing in the Congress ideology.”
Nizamuddin, who passed away recently, was remembered by party leaders, including Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy, MLA Uttam Padmavathi Reddy, senior leader K. Jana Reddy, and former MLA Venepalli Chander Rao. Attendees offered floral tributes at his portrait during the event.
Pledging full support to the family, Uttam Kumar Reddy assured Congress solidarity with the Nizamuddin household. He also announced the party’s backing for a statue in Lingagiri to honour the late leader’s legacy and said leftover development works in the area would be expedited.

In a separate appeal, Uttam Kumar Reddy urged Congress leaders and cadre in Kodad and Huzurnagar to actively engage in upcoming lift irrigation projects, especially in land acquisition coordination. He emphasised the need for swift action to deliver water to new ayacuts and called for a joint effort in maintenance between the government and farmers, despite the state bearing the financial burden.
He named the Musi, Krishna Left Canal, Palair, and Munneru projects as priorities, warning that delays in acquisition would stall progress. He said displaced farmers would be compensated on humanitarian grounds and sought the Congress organisation’s intervention to ensure timely execution.
