Delhi, February 8: Despite a slight increase in its vote share, the Congress party failed to secure a single seat in the Delhi Assembly elections. Party leaders expressed disappointment over the results but reaffirmed their commitment to raising public issues such as air pollution and Yamuna River cleaning.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge acknowledged the party’s electoral setback, stating, “Congress worked to create an anti-incumbency sentiment in public interest, but the people did not give us the mandate we hoped for. We accept this decision.” He also emphasized the need for greater efforts and vowed to continue addressing Delhi’s critical issues, including pollution, electricity, roads, water, and overall development.

Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi also responded to the results, posting on social media platform X, “We accept Delhi’s mandate with humility. My heartfelt thanks to all Congress workers for their hard work and to the voters for their support.” He further assured that the fight against pollution, inflation, and corruption would continue, prioritizing the rights and progress of Delhi residents.

Priyanka Gandhi echoed similar sentiments, stating that Delhi’s voters had chosen change in response to dissatisfaction with AAP’s governance.
The Delhi Assembly election results saw BJP winning 48 seats, while AAP secured 22. The biggest setback for AAP came as former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal lost from the New Delhi constituency, defeated by BJP’s Parvesh Verma by 4,089 votes.
While Congress remains without a seat for the third consecutive election, its leaders maintain that they will continue advocating for public concerns and hold the new government accountable on key developmental issues.
