Hyderabad: A condolence meeting for journalist Swetcha Votarkar was held on Tuesday at the office of The Journalists’ Cooperative Housing Society. The gathering was presided over by society president B Goparaju.
Members of the society paid tributes to Swetcha, who was also a member of its managing committee. Telangana Media Academy’s former chairman, Allam Narayana, addressing the gathering, expressed anguish over posthumous reports circulating on certain YouTube channels and social media platforms.
He said several media outlets had violated ethical boundaries and intruded into Swetcha’s personal life. “Social media and YouTube channels have killed Swetcha a second time,” he remarked, criticising the content and tone of some of the coverage.
Narayana said there is a need to put an end to such practices, warning that continued violations would not be tolerated.
Others present at the event included former Andhra Jyothy editor K. Srinivas, T News CEO and former society secretary Shailesh Reddy, Kamalakaracharya, Prabhakar Rao, Maheshwar Goud, Yoganand, Maruthi Sagar, Basava Punnayya, Lakshminarayana, and Bhagyalakshmi.
