Hyderabad: The State government will soon set up a committee to examine assurances given to Telangana Activists, Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said on Thursday.
He said the government remains positive about fulfilling promises made to Telangana Activists during the Assembly elections. The Minister met Kodandaram and several activists at the Minister’s Quarters.
They discussed the committee’s structure and its terms. They also reviewed the process for implementing the assurances. Ponnam Prabhakar said he would soon lead a delegation of activists to meet Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
High Court direction on Telangana Activists benefits
During the Assembly polls, the Congress promised 250 square yards of house site and a monthly pension of around ₹25,000 under the Abhaya Hastham Scheme. It also assured other welfare benefits.
However, activists moved the High Court. They alleged that the government failed to implement promises made to those who took part in the Statehood movement. The court heard the petition last Monday.
A bench led by Justice Vijaysen Reddy directed the Principal Secretary and Freedom Fighters Department officials to grant house sites and pensions within eight weeks to eligible applicants.
The bench asked authorities not to delay eligibility checks. It instructed officials to process applications as per rules and extend benefits without delay.
In this backdrop, the Minister’s remarks indicate that the government has begun consultations to address pending assurances to Telangana Activists.
