Hyderabad: The cold wave in Telangana intensified over the past few days, with northern districts witnessing a sharp fall in temperatures. Adilabad and Medak districts recorded the lowest minimum temperatures in the state, causing severe discomfort to residents.
According to the latest data released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), minimum temperatures in several areas of Adilabad and Medak were 5 to 7 degrees Celsius below normal. The drop in night temperatures resulted in dense morning fog across these regions.
Cold wave in Telangana deepens as IMD issues warning
The IMD forecast said that temperatures across several parts of the state are likely to remain 2 to 3 degrees Celsius below normal for the next two days. It predicted partly cloudy skies with fog during early morning and night hours today and tomorrow.
Surface winds are expected to blow from the north or northeast at speeds between 4 and 6 km per hour. In some mandals of Adilabad, the temperature fell as low as 8 degrees Celsius. Weather experts said that similar cold conditions are likely to persist in the coming days.
Health officials urge precautions amid cold wave in Telangana
Considering the increasing cold wave in Telangana, the IMD advised people to remain cautious, especially the elderly, children, and those with chronic illnesses. It warned that sudden exposure to cold may lead to health issues and urged residents to wear warm clothing.
Doctors recommended woollen wear, sweaters, and caps, particularly during the night and early morning hours. They also advised the public to avoid stepping out until the fog clears completely. Health experts suggested that precautionary measures are essential to protect against cold-related illnesses during this period.
