Hyderabad: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today congratulated Grandmaster Koneru Humpy for becoming the first Indian woman to enter the semifinals of the FIDE Women’s World Cup, calling her feat a proud moment for the Telugu community.
“Special congratulations to Grandmaster Koneru Humpy for entering the semifinals of the FIDE Women’s World Cup. She is the first Indian woman to do so, and we wish her continued success,” Revanth posted on social media platform X.
Humpy advanced to the semifinals with a 1.5–0.5 win over China’s Yuxin Song in the quarterfinals held Sunday in Georgia. She now stands one step away from a spot in the finals, triggering widespread praise from public figures and sports fans nationwide.
Elsewhere in the tournament, the all-Indian quarterfinal between Divya Deshmukh and Dronavalli Harika went into a tie-break after both classical games ended in draws. The decider is set for Monday.
