Hyderabad: A tragic incident unfolded in Ranga Reddy district on Sunday evening when a 15-year-old Class 10 student drowned while swimming with his friends in a local lake at Maheshwaram mandal.
The deceased, identified as S. Ankit, studied at the MJP BC Welfare Residential School in Rajendranagar and attended classes at J.J. College, Maheshwaram. According to police, Ankit, along with his friends Bonkuru Hemanth and M. Tarun Teja, went for a swim in the lake near Kesi Thanda around 4 p.m.
Swift rescue efforts and police response
Moments later, Ankit disappeared under the water. His friends immediately raised an alarm, prompting locals to rush to the spot and alert the Maheshwaram police and fire department. Consequently, search operations began without delay.
Police teams and fire personnel carried out an extensive search through the night. By early Monday morning, around 7 a.m., they recovered the boy’s body from the lake. Police registered a case and began investigating the circumstances leading to the drowning.
School community grieves the loss
Meanwhile, news of the boy’s death spread quickly, shocking the school community. Teachers, students, and villagers gathered to console the grieving family. The school authorities expressed deep sorrow and offered condolences to Ankit’s parents.
As a result of the tragedy, the atmosphere on campus turned sombre. Staff and students mourned the loss of a bright, well-mannered student known for his dedication and academic excellence.
