Hyderabad: The tipper truck involved in the fatal Chevella bus accident, which killed 19 people in Ranga Reddy district on Monday, had a history of traffic violations, police said.
Investigators traced the vehicle bearing number TG06T3879 to Uditiya Anita. Earlier this year, Cyberabad traffic police fined the vehicle ₹3,270 for entering restricted city zones and transporting excess loads. These violations were recorded in Chandanagar and RC Puram during February and September.
Overloaded tipper, excessive speed caused deadly crash
Officials said the truck was travelling from Patancheru crusher mill to Vikarabad, loaded with gravel far beyond legal limits. The driver, moving at high speed, lost control of the vehicle. It rammed into an RTC bus, causing the deadly collision.
The driver, Akash, hailed from Maharashtra. He worked under Lachchanayak, a vehicle owner from Mahabubnagar district. Akash died on the spot.
19 killed in Chevella crash, including women and a child
The impact killed both drivers immediately. Additionally, the crash claimed the lives of seven men, twelve women, and one child. Around 70 passengers, mostly students and workers, were on board the RTC bus at the time.
Medical staff at Chevella Government Hospital and several private facilities are treating the injured. Officials stated that 19 bodies had already undergone post-mortem and were handed over to relatives.
Final report to determine additional lapses
Authorities are now investigating whether mechanical faults or further safety violations contributed to the scale of the tragedy. The final report, once completed, will outline all factors that led to the accident.
