Telangana ministers order probe into Chevella bus accident

Hyderabad: Telangana ministers expressed deep shock over the Chevella bus accident and ordered an immediate inquiry into the mishap near Mirzaguda in Ranga Reddy district.

Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Ministers D. Sridhar Babu and Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, along with Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, conveyed condolences to the families of the deceased. Soon after learning about the incident, Ponnam spoke to district officials over the phone and gathered preliminary details. He directed the collector and local authorities to visit the site and speed up rescue operations.

Further, the minister instructed health officials to ensure the injured received the best medical care. Sridhar Babu said the government would extend full support to the affected families.

Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, in a post on X, described the accident — involving an RTC bus and a tipper truck at Khanapur stage — as deeply distressing. He noted that women and children were among the victims and urged officials to provide advanced treatment to those hospitalised.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed grief on X, calling the tragedy heart-wrenching. He extended condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Later, Ponnam Prabhakar visited the injured at the Chevella Government Hospital. Speaking to the media, he announced an official inquiry into the accident and said the tragedy should not be politicised. He assured that the government stood firmly with the victims.

When asked about allegations linking the accident to delays in road widening, Ponnam said the inquiry would identify those responsible for obstructing the project. “Regardless of who is in power, this is not the time for politics,” he stated.
