BRS seeks Ponguleti dismissal, judicial probe over mining allegations

Hyderabad: A delegation of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) met Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Monday, seeking the dismissal of Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and a judicial inquiry into alleged illegal mining and land grabbing.

The BRS leaders, including MLAs and MLCs, held a nearly hour-long meeting at Lok Bhavan. They submitted documents alleging large-scale irregularities linked to the Minister. The Ponguleti dismissal probe formed the core of their complaint.

They presented evidence claiming that Raghava Constructions, associated with Ponguleti, carried out illegal mining operations. According to the delegation, these activities violated established norms and occurred in restricted zones, including reservoir catchment areas.

The delegation further stated that the company operated without mandatory clearances. These included the absence of mineral dealer licences and other regulatory approvals.

Ponguleti dismissal probe allegations detailed before Governor

The BRS delegation said the Ponguleti dismissal probe must be conducted under a sitting High Court judge. They argued that only an independent judicial mechanism could ensure accountability.

They also pointed out that the state government had acknowledged irregularities. Notices had been issued to Raghava Constructions, they said, citing statements made in the Assembly.

However, the delegation alleged that instead of addressing the issue, the ruling Congress government suspended and expelled BRS legislators. They claimed this action was meant to suppress discussion on the allegations.

Ponguleti dismissal probe demand gains political traction

Speaking later, BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao accused the government of suppressing the issue. He described the situation as “Emergency-like conditions.”

He also expressed distrust in state investigative agencies such as CB-CID. Therefore, he reiterated the demand for an independent Ponguleti dismissal probe.

Rama Rao warned that the party would intensify its agitation. He said BRS would continue its fight until illegal mining and land grabbing were stopped.

Meanwhile, the Governor assured the delegation that the matter would be examined.
