Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi has demanded that regional parties be allotted floor time in Parliament irrespective of their MP count. Party Rajya Sabha leader K R Suresh Reddy raised the issue at an all-party meeting chaired by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju ahead of the monsoon session beginning Monday.
Addressing reporters after the meeting on Sunday, Suresh Reddy said pressing issues from Telangana and across the country warrant time-bound debate. He urged both the BJP and the Congress to ensure discussions on public problems are not derailed by adjournments.
Citing inter-state river disputes, Reddy called for a comprehensive debate on the river-linking policy, warning that projects built without consent pose a threat to Telangana’s water security. He clarified that while BRS is not opposed to river interlinking in principle, it will resist unilateral project construction by neighbouring states.
He also flagged a critical shortage of fertilisers affecting farmers in Telangana and called for immediate remedial action. Additionally, Reddy urged Parliament to examine the impact of former US President Trump’s tariff regime on Indian agriculture.
The BRS also demanded that the government make a clear policy statement on the proposed delimitation of constituencies, following debate in both Houses.
