BRS stages protest against Rajendra Nagar merger in GHMC

Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) staged a protest against the proposed Rajendra Nagar merger in GHMC, alleging that the government acted without consulting the public.

Party leaders questioned how authorities could merge suburban areas into the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation without seeking people’s opinion. Consequently, BRS workers burned an effigy of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and demanded an immediate rollback of the decision.

Leaders accused the Congress government of taking a unilateral decision for political gain. According to them, the move undermines Hyderabad’s vision as a unified global city.

Rajendra Nagar merger draws sharp political reaction

BRS leaders stated that the same Congress party once expanded Hyderabad into a Greater city. However, they alleged that the present move effectively splits the city into three corporations.

They argued that such restructuring could slow urban growth and disrupt administrative efficiency. Although the government claimed the division aims to improve governance, BRS leaders said the public does not support the plan.

The party maintained that Hyderabad attracted massive investments in IT, pharma and real estate sectors over the years. Therefore, they warned that altering the city’s structure without broad consultation could impact its development trajectory.

BRS leaders reiterated their demand for public opinion before implementing the Rajendra Nagar merger. They added that the party would intensify protests if the government fails to reconsider its decision.
