BRS MLC hails KCR’s fast as turning point in Telangana formation

Hyderabad: BRS MLC Dr Dasoju Sravan Kumar on Thursday credited K Chandrashekar Rao’s 2009 indefinite fast. He believed it forced the Centre to announce the formation of Telangana. He called it a selfless act that changed the state’s destiny.

Describing the hunger strike as the “turning point” in Telangana’s fight for self-respect and autonomy, Sravan said KCR’s protest from November 29 to December 9 put immense pressure on the Union government. “Without KCR’s fast, there would be no Telangana, no self-rule, and no comprehensive development,” he said in a social media post. This marked the anniversary of the protest.

He added that the then TRS chief risked his life for the people. He entered a fast-unto-death that culminated in the Centre’s announcement for Telangana statehood. “He chose to either die or achieve Telangana,” the BRS MLC said.

Sravan referred to KCR as the “Father of Telangana,” lauding his sacrifice and commitment. He said the fast symbolised the struggle of a suppressed Telangana and marked a milestone in its eventual creation. His tribute was posted as part of “Deeksha Divas,” commemorating the protest.
