Hyderabad: The BJP appears set to cut loose Goshamahal MLA Raja Singh, who has become a thorn in the side of the party, after he resigned in protest over the state unit president’s election.
Singh tendered his resignation to Union Minister Kishan Reddy, objecting to the selection process, and declared that he no longer considered himself a member of the BJP. He also wrote to the Assembly Speaker seeking to cancel his membership, party sources said.
Senior BJP leaders see this as an opportunity to remove Singh, who has repeatedly embarrassed the party with his controversial actions. Several leaders have conveyed to the central leadership that they can no longer tolerate Singh, describing the current moment as the best chance to distance themselves from him.
According to party insiders, a letter on the issue has been sent to the BJP central leadership with signatures from key figures, including Union ministers Kishan Reddy, Bandi Sanjay, and new state president Ramchander Rao. They are waiting for a green signal from the central high command to formally communicate the party’s stand to the Speaker, a senior BJP functionary confirmed to Namaste Telangana.
If the party and the Speaker accept Singh’s resignation, a bypoll in Goshamahal is considered inevitable, possibly by the end of July. BJP circles indicated that the Election Commission could club the Goshamahal bypoll notification with that of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, scheduled for October. Jubilee Hills is also likely to face a by-election around the same time.
