BJP accuses Congress of vote bank politics over temple attacks, land allotments

Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao accused the Congress government of engaging in vote bank politics by ignoring attacks on Hindu temples and allegedly diverting temple lands for other religious and commercial use.

Speaking at Bhadrachalam before heading to Mahabubabad district, Rao cited the incidents at Mutyalamma and Peddamma temples in Hyderabad as examples of the Revanth Reddy government’s failure to act. “The inaction speaks volumes. It’s a dangerous precedent,” he said.

Rao condemned the reported allotment of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) lands to madrasas and the construction of markets on temple land. He demanded that such properties be reclaimed and returned for temple use.

The BJP leader also criticised the state administration for failing to cooperate with the Centre’s efforts to develop Bhadrachalam. He said Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy had sanctioned ₹98 crore for the temple town’s infrastructure, of which ₹42–₹48 crore had already been disbursed. He urged the state to submit the Detailed Project Report (DPR) to unlock the remaining funds.

Earlier, Rao visited the Sri Seetharamachandra Swamy temple and performed rituals accompanied by Vedic chants from temple priests.
