BIS Hyderabad fake ISI mark raid at PVC wire unit

Hyderabad: BIS Hyderabad fake ISI mark crackdown led to the seizure of over 200 boxes of PVC insulated electrical wires and cables from a manufacturing unit in Cherlapally Industrial Area on Tuesday.

The Bureau of Indian Standards, Hyderabad Branch Office, conducted the search and seizure operation for alleged violations of the BIS Act, 2016. Officials carried out the drive under the direction of P.V. Srikanth, Director and Head. Rakesh Tanneeru, Director, led the operation.

Authorities found PVC insulated electrical wires and cables bearing fake ISI marks and fraudulent licence numbers. The seized stock is valued at more than Rs 5 lakh, officials said.

Electrical products fall under mandatory Quality Control Orders. Therefore, manufacturers must obtain BIS certification before production or sale. Officials stated that the unit violated Section 17 of the BIS Act, 2016. The provision prohibits manufacturing or selling products covered under QCO without valid certification.

BIS Hyderabad fake ISI mark violations attract stringent penalties under the law. The offence carries imprisonment of up to two years. In addition, first-time offenders face a fine of not less than Rs 2 lakh. Subsequent offences attract a minimum fine of Rs 5 lakh.

BIS confirmed that it will initiate legal proceedings against the unit. Meanwhile, officials advised consumers to verify product authenticity through the BIS CARE App. They also urged the public to report suspected violations to the authorities.
