HYDERABAD: Forest Minister Konda Surekha has called upon young scientists and environmental enthusiasts to actively participate in biodiversity conservation efforts. Speaking at the National Biodiversity Conference organised by the Telangana Biodiversity Board in Ranga Reddy district on Thursday, the minister reiterated the collective responsibility in protecting the environment, water resources, and soil.
The conference, scheduled from February 20 to 22, aims to serve as a platform for conservation, research, and study in the field of biodiversity. Minister Surekha highlighted the rich natural heritage of Telangana, including forests, grasslands, wetlands, flora, and fauna, and stressed upon the need to preserve these ecosystems to maintain environmental balance.
Addressing the participants, she expressed concern over the alarming rate at which plant and animal species are becoming endangered due to human activity. She urged immediate action to safeguard these species, pointing out that the true value of biodiversity lies in its genetic wealth. The minister hailed the efforts of state governments and various organisations across the country dedicated to the conservation and sustainable utilisation of biodiversity.
The three-day National Biodiversity Conference seeks to foster collaboration among students, young scientists, and researchers, encouraging them to contribute meaningfully to environmental preservation initiatives.
