Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Tuesday directed welfare department officials to draw up a detailed calendar for inspections of welfare hostels and residential schools (Gurukuls).
Speaking at a review meeting held at Praja Bhavan in the presence of Social Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar, Bhatti insisted that all officer visits be recorded with timely reporting on what was inspected. He told officials to make these visits continuous and to involve ministers and local MLAs in the inspections.
Referring to the government’s pro-student steps, Bhatti said diet charges had been raised by 40% and cosmetic charges by 200% soon after taking office. A new menu prepared on doctors’ advice was finalised, and he instructed that this be displayed on banners at all hostels and Gurukuls.
Officials were asked to submit detailed reports on hostel amenities, with a focus on those in rented premises, noting building conditions and landlord details.
Bhatti also directed that mosquito nets be installed, drinking water kept uninterrupted, health check-ups be carried out for all hostel and Gurukul students, and individual health cards issued quickly. He asked district collectors and medical officers to coordinate the health card drive. Corporate hospitals, he added, were willing to extend online medical services for sick students, and officials should use those facilities.
In addition, Bhatti called for plans to install solar panels on all residential school buildings to meet power needs.
The review also covered the “Best Available Schools” scheme and progress of “Centers of Excellence” across different Gurukul societies. Officials present included Sandeep Kumar Sultania, Principal Secretary (Finance); Alugu Varshini, Secretary SC Gurukuls; Kshitij, Deputy Director Social Welfare; Shafi, Commissioner Minority Welfare; Saidulu, Secretary BC Gurukuls; Seethalakshmi, Secretary ST Gurukuls; Sarveshwar Reddy, Additional Director Tribal Welfare, among others.
