Hyderabad: Police arrested two habitual offenders in a Begumpet house burglary case and recovered stolen gold ornaments, mobile phones and cash worth Rs 40 lakh, officials said on Saturday.
The case began after M. Anuradha, 60, a resident of SatyaKrishna Siri Sampada Apartments in Begumpet, lodged a complaint. She said she locked her flat at about 12.45 pm on February 15 and left for Kavadiguda to attend a family function.
However, on the morning of February 16, her domestic worker and neighbours alerted her that the main gate lock was broken and the door stood open. She returned home at about 11.30 am. She found the house ransacked and the almirah forced open. Ten sets of gold earrings, four gold rings, six gold chains, other gold and silver ornaments, and Rs 60,000 in cash were missing.
Police registered a case under Sections 331(3) and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and began an investigation.
Begumpet house burglary accused tracked and property seized
As the probe progressed, the Begumpet Crime Team tracked down two suspects and apprehended them on February 21. Police identified them as Bisayi Pradeep, 25, a private employee staying at a boys’ hostel in Prakash Nagar, Begumpet, and a native of Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh. The second accused, Edla Praveen Kumar, 32, works as a labourer and resides in Shaikpet. He hails from Adilabad district.
Police said both men had prior involvement in property offences. Earlier, Pradeep figured in Crime No. 468/2025 of Begumpet Police Station under Sections 331(3) and 305 BNS. Similarly, Praveen Kumar was booked in Crime No. 715/2025 of Film Nagar Police Station under Sections 331(4) and 305 BNS.
During interrogation, officers recovered 235 grams of gold ornaments linked to the Begumpet house burglary. In addition, they seized one OnePlus mobile phone from the first accused and one Realme mobile phone from the second accused. They also recovered Rs 65,000 in cash. Police estimated the total value of the seized property at Rs 40 lakh.
Senior officers supervised the operation. The team included officials from Begumpet Police Station and the CCS Cantonment unit.
Meanwhile, police urged residents to lock doors, windows and gates securely before leaving home. They also advised citizens to report suspicious activity without delay to prevent further property offences.
