A 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck the Bay of Bengal at a depth of 91 km. Tremors were felt in Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, and nearby regions, according to NCS.
KOLKATA: An earthquake struck the Bay of Bengal on Monday morning, registering a magnitude of 6.1 on the Richter scale. The National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported that the earthquake occurred at 6:10 AM at a depth of 91 kilometers beneath the sea.
The tremors were strong enough to be felt in several parts of West Bengal and Odisha, including Kolkata and Bhubaneswar. The NCS confirmed that mild to moderate tremors were reported across multiple regions, though there have been no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
This seismic activity comes just a week after an earthquake shook Delhi-NCR and neighboring areas. On February 17, an earthquake of 4.0 magnitude struck the national capital region at 5:36 AM, followed by tremors in Bihar a few hours later.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and experts have urged residents in affected regions to remain cautious. Seismologists continue to assess whether there is any risk of aftershocks in the impacted areas.
