Bandi Sanjay promises ₹10 lakh for villages electing BJP-backed sarpanch

Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs and Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay’s promise drew attention on Tuesday after he announced a ₹10 lakh grant for any village in his constituency that elects a BJP-backed sarpanch unanimously. He made the offer soon after the Telangana State Election Commission released the panchayat poll schedule. Sanjay said he would release the funds without delay if villagers selected a BJP-supported candidate through consensus.

He stated on X that the amount would reach the village directly. Sanjay said his MP funds remain available. He added that he had already used large CSR contributions for education and health projects. He said he would secure more resources as a Union Minister and direct them toward panchayat development.

Bandi Sanjay promises to sharpen political tone before panchayat polls

Sanjay criticised previous governments for failing to honour similar promises. He said the earlier BRS administration assured ₹5 lakh for unanimous panchayats. He noted that 70 villages in the Karimnagar segment supported BRS candidates, yet no funds reached them in five years. Sanjay asked voters not to trust BRS or Congress. He warned that villages would lose new funds if either party’s supporters won. He also said central allocations could face misuse under their control.

The State Election Commission announced that panchayat elections will take place on December 11, 14 and 17. Polling will run from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., and counting will start at 2 p.m. Telangana will elect 12,728 sarpanches and 1,12,242 ward members. State Election Commissioner I. Rani Kumudini said 1.66 crore rural voters will participate.
