Hyderabad: The accused in the Attapur sexual assault case was arrested within 48 hours, police said on March 30, 2026, after a disabled woman was assaulted at Hasan Nagar under Attapur police limits.
The accused, identified as Mohammed Aqueel (35), a labourer, was taken into custody for allegedly sexually assaulting a deaf and physically disabled woman who is his relative. Police said the offence took place at the victim’s residence in Hasan Nagar, Rajendranagar area.
According to investigators, the complainant had briefly stepped out of the house on the morning of March 28, leaving the victim alone. The accused allegedly entered the house, locked the door and assaulted the woman. When the complainant returned, she found the victim in distress and the accused present at the scene, who then fled.
The victim later conveyed details of the incident through gestures, which the complainant understood, leading to a police complaint. Based on the evidence collected so far, police registered a case under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Attapur sexual assault case probe details and arrest
Police said the accused was apprehended within two days, and his clothes were seized as part of the investigation. Officials added that the accused was known to frequently visit the locality and had a history of unruly behaviour.
The arrest was carried out under the supervision of S Sreenivas, along with T Srinivas and K Nageswara Rao. The police team involved in the operation has been commended for swift action.
Further investigation is underway to complete the legal process in the case.
