Hyderabad: The Centre will roll out an annual toll pass on August 15, aiming to make national highway travel cheaper and easier for private vehicle owners. The pass costs ₹3,000 per year and allows 200 trips, cutting the cost per toll crossing to ₹15.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) confirmed the facility will be available at designated toll plazas nationwide. Moreover, details of eligible plazas are already available on the NHAI website. The scheme targets frequent travellers, offering them substantial savings over the year.
Annual toll pass to ease costs for regular commuters
Under the scheme, users will load ₹3,000 to credit 200 toll uses or a one-year validity to their existing FASTag. Once the limit expires, the FASTag will automatically switch back to standard pay-per-use mode. Importantly, drivers will not need a new FASTag, since the benefit links directly to the one they already own.
For example, commuters on the Hyderabad–Vijayawada highway stand to gain the most. Currently, they pay ₹305 one way to cross three plazas—Pantangi, Korlapahad, and Chillakallu. However, with the annual pass, the same trip will cost ₹45, giving relief to employees, traders, and others who travel weekly or twice a month.
