Hyderabad: Union Home Minister Amit Shah led congratulatory messages after India defeated Pakistan by 61 runs in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 clash at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Amit Shah praised Team India’s dominant display and lauded the players for maintaining their winning record against Pakistan in global tournaments. India posted 175 for 7 and then bowled out Pakistan for 114 in 18 overs to seal a comprehensive victory.
Ishan Kishan anchored India’s innings with a blazing 77 off 40 balls, including 10 fours and three sixes. Meanwhile, Saim Ayub claimed 3 for 25 to keep Pakistan in contention. However, Indian bowlers turned the game decisively in the second innings.
“Well played #TeamIndia. Formats, places, and dates may change, but the result of #IndvsPak remains consistent. Congratulations to the entire team,” Amit Shah posted on X.

BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla also congratulated the team on social media. “What a way to make it 8-1 in the T20 World Cups against Pakistan! Sensational batting by Ishan Kishan, and excellent bowling by Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and Varun Chakravarthy. A complete team effort. Jai Hind!” he wrote.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal described the performance as dominant and praised the seamless teamwork. He extended best wishes for the upcoming matches in the T20 World Cup 2026.
On the field, India’s bowlers dismantled Pakistan’s batting early. Hardik Pandya removed Shahibzada Farhan in the opening over. Jasprit Bumrah followed with two quick wickets, including Saim Ayub and skipper Salman Agha.
Usman Khan scored 44 and fought a lone battle. He stitched small partnerships with Babar Azam and Shadab Khan. However, Axar Patel dismissed Azam and later removed Khan. Kuldeep Yadav bowled out Mohammad Nawaz, while Tilak Varma claimed Shadab’s wicket.
Pakistan’s lower order collapsed as they lost their last five wickets for 41 runs. Their total of 114 marked their third-lowest in T20 World Cup history.
India will now carry momentum into their remaining fixtures in the tournament.
