BJP’s Anji Reddy wins Karimnagar MLC elections after intense vote counting

HYDERABAD: The long wait for the Karimnagar graduate MLC election results has finally ended, with BJP candidate C. Anji Reddy emerging victorious. His win was confirmed after the counting of second-preference votes. Anji Reddy secured 78,635 votes, while Congress candidate Narender Reddy received 73,644 votes. BSP candidate Prasanna Harikrishna garnered 63,404 votes. Following the confirmation of Anji Reddy’s victory, Narender Reddy left the counting center.

With this result, the BJP has secured both the Karimnagar teachers’ and graduate MLC seats. Election officials are expected to make a formal announcement soon.

A Tight Contest Between BJP and Congress

The contest between the BJP and Congress was intense, with both parties vying closely for victory. The vote counting, which lasted for two days, was filled with suspense. Initially, the first-preference votes did not yield a clear winner, leading to a second-preference vote count to determine the final result.

Until midnight on Tuesday, after six rounds of counting, Anji Reddy led Narender Reddy by 6,931 votes. While the BJP maintained an advantage for five consecutive rounds, it faced setbacks in the sixth and seventh rounds, where Narender Reddy gained the lead.

In the sixth round, Narender Reddy secured a narrow lead of 211 votes. In the seventh round, his lead increased to over 600 votes.

However, in today’s final counting, luck favored the BJP candidate, securing Anji Reddy’s victory. The Congress camp, which had been confident of a win, was left disappointed by the final outcome.

Meanwhile, BJP supporters celebrated Anji Reddy’s victory at Ambedkar Stadium in Karimnagar, marking the party’s success in the region.
