Hyderabad: A 31-year-old man died by suicide in Sangareddy district after reportedly losing a large sum of money in cricket betting. Police identified the deceased as Akhil, a resident of Sai Nagar in RC Puram mandal.
According to officials, Akhil checked into an Oyo hotel near Beeramguda Kaman on Monday evening. Later, he called his father, Sangeeth Rao, and told him that he intended to end his life. Despite his father’s pleas and assurances of help, Akhil took the extreme step shortly after the call.
Police investigate cricket betting-related suicide
The next morning, hotel staff alerted the management when Akhil failed to open his room door. The owner broke it open and found him hanging inside.
Police shifted the body for postmortem and registered a case. Investigators are looking into Akhil’s betting losses and the circumstances that led to his death.
