Hyderabad: An 81-year-old woman met the District Collector in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri alleging that her daughters-in-law threw her out of the house and denied her rights in a land dispute.
Marripelli Sugunamma of Ramaram village in Gundala mandal submitted a petition during the Prajavani programme at the Bhongir Collectorate on Monday. There, she directly appealed to Collector Hanumantha Rao and narrated her ordeal.
Sugunamma said her husband Anjaiah died in 2008. Subsequently, her three sons also passed away over the years.
However, she alleged that her daughters-in-law stopped caring for her during the past 12 years. Instead, they forced her out of the house and left her without support.
Land dispute over family property
According to Sugunamma, the daughters-in-law divided and cultivated the family land without allocating her share. The property includes 1.22 acres in her husband’s name and 1.32 acres in her name.
Despite repeated representations, officials have not issued her a new pattadar passbook reflecting her rights in the land dispute. Therefore, she urged authorities to update her name in the ‘Bhu Bharati’ records and issue the passbook at the earliest.
After the eviction, she stayed near the village bus stand for several days. Meanwhile, her daughters and sons-in-law stepped in and now provide her shelter.
Responding immediately, Collector Hanumantha Rao spoke to the Gundala Tahsildar and ordered corrective steps. He directed officials to transfer the land in her husband’s name to Sugunamma and, furthermore, place it in the block list so no one can sell it.
