Hyderabad: Police booked 605 cases of drunk driving during New Year celebrations across the Malkajgiri Commissionerate. Among these, 605 drunk drivers were noted during the celebrations. The celebrations concluded without any major road accidents, officials said.
A special overnight drive conducted from December 31 to January 1 involved 36 dedicated traffic enforcement teams. The highest number of cases were reported from LB Nagar, Vanasthalipuram, Uppal, and Kushaiguda areas.
Over 230 drivers recorded high alcohol levels
According to police, 230 offenders recorded blood alcohol content levels above 100 mg, while eight drivers tested above 300 mg. Among the 605 drunk drivers, the majority were found in these areas.
Authorities confirmed that all driving licences involved in the offences would be seized. Of the drunk drivers caught, their licenses would be forwarded to respective Road Transport Authorities (RTAs) for suspension under standard procedure.
Police expressed appreciation for public cooperation and reaffirmed their zero-tolerance approach to drunk driving. Efforts to apprehend 605 drunk drivers were part of this commitment.
