Hyderabad: Despite financial strain, the Telangana government is releasing funds every Monday for completed stages of Indiramma housing construction, according to Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy.
On Monday, ₹16.07 crore was disbursed – ₹1 lakh each for 1,383 houses with completed basements and ₹1.25 lakh each for 224 houses where walls have been raised. So far, ₹53.64 crore has reached 5,364 beneficiaries who’ve completed either basements or walls.
In a Zoom review with officials, the minister said under the pilot phase of the Indiramma housing scheme, 47,335 houses were sanctioned. Groundwork has begun for 20,104. Of those, 5,140 have reached the basement stage, 300 have walls up, and 10 more are slab-ready.
To avoid any middlemen, payments are being made in four direct instalments to beneficiaries’ bank accounts ₹1 lakh after the basement, ₹1.25 lakh post-walls, ₹1.75 lakh after the slab, and the final ₹1 lakh upon full completion.
Citing the approaching monsoon, Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy instructed officials to accelerate construction to wrap up as many houses as possible before the rains hit.
