Over 3,100 children join Telangana SIP Prodigy Contest in Shamshabad

Hyderabad: A record 3,100 children took part in the 21st Telangana Regional SIP Prodigy Contest 2025 held Sunday morning at Classic Convention-3 near Shamshabad.

The event, organised by SIP Abacus, featured children aged 6 to 12 testing their speed and accuracy in mental arithmetic. Split into two rounds of 1,550 participants each, the children attempted more than 200 problems in 11 minutes, showcasing abacus-based calculation skills.

SIP Academy Director Sibi Sekhar, who opened the event, said abacus training develops not only math skills but also concentration, memory, and confidence. He remarked that contests build resilience and a spirit to grow, regardless of winning or losing.

Regional winners will move on to the International Prodigy Championship in Chennai this November, expected to draw over 5,000 participants from 23 Indian states and 11 countries.

A convocation was also held for 300 children who cleared the advanced Grand Master Level of SIP Abacus.

Speaking before the contest, Sekhar outlined expansion plans into Gujarat, parts of Uttar Pradesh, Australia, and other international markets. SIP Academy currently operates in 23 Indian states and 11 countries, with a reach of more than one million trained students over two decades. There are 1,000 centres running programs in 1,500 schools with the support of 5,000 teachers, and 1.75 lakh enrolled students at present.

Telangana State Head Bharath said 71 centres are active across Telangana, with 10,300 students enrolled, aiming to scale up to 100 centres within a year.

Uma Swaminathan announced SIP Academy’s green efforts under its “Creating a Forest” program using the Miyawaki technique. Five such forests have been developed in other states, and Telangana’s first is planned in coordination with the State Forest Department.

SIP Prodigy contests have earned six Limca Book of Records entries for participation scale.
