₹10,000 penalty for drinking water misuse in Banjara Hills

Hyderabad: HMWSSB Managing Director Ashok Reddy imposed a drinking water misuse penalty of ₹10,000 after he personally saw a man washing a car with potable water in Banjara Hills. He noticed the violation while travelling along the main road in the area and stopped to inspect the source.

When he reached Road No.12, he found the individual diverting treated Water Board supply for a non-essential activity. He immediately instructed the resident to stop and warned that drinking water must be used only for domestic consumption. Moreover, he directed the local manager to issue a notice and collect the penalty without delay.

Officials then levied the ₹10,000 penalty on the individual. They said the action aims to deter misuse in high-demand neighbourhoods, especially as the city continues to enforce conservation measures.

MD reiterates action against drinking water misuse

The drinking water misuse warning continued as the MD appealed to residents to safeguard the limited supply. He explained that unauthorised use disrupts scheduled distribution and places unnecessary pressure on the supply network. Furthermore, he urged citizens to report visible wastage so enforcement teams can respond quickly.

Officials added that strict action will follow any future violations and stressed that water conservation remains a priority as demand rises across the city.
