Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Tuesday announced that the Telangana government is planning to establish a foundation in memory of late chief minister Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and institute awards for progressive farmers.
Speaking after paying floral tributes to YSR on his birth anniversary at Banjara Hills, Bhatti said the initiative would recognise individuals contributing significantly to agriculture. The foundation will implement various agriculture-linked programmes in YSR’s name.
By YSR’s death anniversary, the government aims to roll out a structured scheme honouring accomplished farmers, agriculture scientists, and researchers. The awards will celebrate innovation, productivity, and contribution to rural development in the spirit of YSR’s agrarian legacy.
Bhatti noted that YSR’s name remains synonymous with irrigation and farmer welfare. “He diverted the lifeblood of rivers Krishna and Godavari into farmlands. His contribution to agriculture in the Telugu states is unmatched,” he said, adding that the government intends to carry forward YSR’s vision every day.
