Hyderabad: A woman suffered critical burn injuries after her son allegedly set her on fire in Kuntapalli village of Sangem mandal, Warangal district, in the early hours of Saturday.
Police said the accused, Muthineni Sathish, poured petrol on his 50-year-old mother Vinoda and set her ablaze. The woman was shifted to MGM Hospital in Warangal, where doctors confirmed she had sustained 85 per cent burns.
Before losing consciousness, Vinoda gave a statement to a magistrate confirming that her son was responsible for the attack.
The accused fled immediately after the incident. Local police registered a case based on a complaint from the woman’s family and have begun a search operation.
Preliminary investigation points to a property dispute as the motive behind the assault.
