Worldwide lunar eclipse today; partial phase visible in India

Hyderabad: A worldwide lunar eclipse will occur today, although observers in India will witness only a brief partial phase in the evening.

Astronomers said the total phase will begin at 3:20 pm IST. However, in India, the eclipse will become visible only during its concluding stage. Therefore, people in the Telugu States can observe it between 6:20 pm and 6:47 pm, giving viewers just 27 minutes.

Lunar eclipse: temples open and closed across India

Due to the celestial event, many prominent temples across India will close during the period. However, a few shrines will remain open for devotees.

In Andhra Pradesh, Srikalahasteeswara Temple at Srikalahasti will stay open. Likewise, Arunachalesvara Temple in Tamil Nadu will function as usual.

In Karnataka, Udupi Sri Krishna Temple will remain open. Similarly, Kerala’s Thiruvairappu Sree Krishna Temple will allow darshan.

In northern India, Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga in Madhya Pradesh, Kalkaji Mandir in Delhi, Vishnupad Temple in Bihar, Lakshminath Temple in Rajasthan and Kalpeshwar Temple in Uttarakhand will also remain open despite the eclipse.

The total phase will be visible in parts of East Asia, Australia and the United States.
