Hyderabad: Telangana Sports Minister Vakiti Srihari announced that Hyderabad will host the Women’s Hockey World Cup qualifier from March 8 to March 14.
He made the announcement during a press conference at SATG, LB Stadium. SATG Chairman K. Shivasena Reddy and MD Soni Bala Mayadevi attended. Srihari said Hyderabad is rapidly emerging as a global city. Therefore, it is attracting several international sporting events.
The Telangana government has completed arrangements for the Women’s Hockey World Cup qualifier, organised by the Fédération Internationale de Hockey.
Teams from India, Austria, England, Italy, Korea, Scotland, Uruguay and Wales will participate. These matches will decide qualification for the 2026 Women’s Hockey World Cup.
Arrangements completed for Women’s Hockey World Cup qualifier
The Sports Authority of Telangana has arranged all facilities for the event. Officials upgraded the Gachibowli Hockey Stadium with an international-standard astroturf.
Moreover, authorities ensured strong security and modern infrastructure. They also arranged world-class accommodation for the athletes. Officials maintained close coordination with the Fédération Internationale de Hockey and Hockey India. Therefore, the organisers expect smooth conduct of the tournament.
Meanwhile, all participating teams have already arrived in Hyderabad. The Telangana Sports Department welcomed them. Players are currently practising at the upgraded astroturf facility in Gachibowli. The venue is fully prepared for international matches.
Additionally, the government plans heritage tours for players and delegates. This will allow them to experience Hyderabad’s culture.
Srihari said the Telangana government strongly supports sports development. Under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, several initiatives have started. He also recalled the successful Chief Minister Cup 2025. The tournament saw strong participation from villages across the state. Finally, the minister urged sports fans to attend the matches at Gachibowli. He also requested the media to give wide publicity to the event.
