Hyderabad: Minister Seethakka on Saturday highlighted the Congress government’s initiatives to empower women, declaring that women’s growth is society’s growth. She said the Congress administration had launched a free bus travel scheme for women within 24 hours of assuming power, which she described as transformative beyond free rides, as it turned women into owners of buses through participatory schemes.
Speaking at an event, Seethakka noted the State government drew inspiration from women’s aspirations and worked to fulfil them. She pointed out that interest-free loans were neglected in the past but were now being extended to women’s groups, giving them an economic backbone.
Seethakka said a newly launched book documenting women’s experiences of travelling on RTC buses was gratifying evidence of the scheme’s social impact. She added that the wishes of Mandal Samakhya women were being honoured, with support systems helping them advance financially.
According to Seethakka, women’s self-help groups had secured ₹25,000 crore in loans since the Congress took office, with banks extending fresh loans easily thanks to regular repayment discipline. She asserted that these measures were laying the foundation for sustainable women-led progress across Telangana.
