Hyderabad: Telangana has launched free women RTC driver training to fill thousands of vacant posts under the 33 per cent reservation quota. The initiative aims to overcome low participation by offering driving lessons to eligible women candidates.
Although many posts have been earmarked for women, most remain unfilled due to a lack of training and other barriers. The government has now partnered with SERP and voluntary group MEWO to provide heavy vehicle training at no cost.
Women RTC driver training begins in Hakeempet and Sircilla under the new quota push
The training will be held in Hakeempet and Sircilla, with all expenses covered by the state. Officials said qualified women would be recruited into the RTC after completing the course. Others may be placed as bus drivers in IT campuses.
Women already hold several key roles in RTC, including as conductors and regional managers in Hyderabad, Secunderabad, and Ranga Reddy. But among 15,000 regular driver posts, only a small number are held by women. The training initiative aims to correct that imbalance.
Authorities believe women drivers will enhance passenger safety and create a more secure atmosphere on public transport.
