Hyderabad: A woman allegedly poisoned her husband by serving him a pesticide-laced soft drink in Warangal district’s Bhavanikunta Thanda under Wardhannapet municipality limits.
According to police and the victim’s family, Jatoth Balaji, 44, a farm labourer from Bhavanikunta Thanda, died Tuesday at a private hospital in Warangal after consuming the tainted drink on July 8.
That evening, villagers were celebrating the local Daatudu festival. Balaji had bought chicken and asked his wife, Kanthi, to cook it. Instead, she reportedly poured a pesticide-mixed soft drink into a glass and handed it to him.
Minutes after drinking, Balaji complained of throat pain. Kanthi then left for her brother-in-law’s house in nearby Thallakunta Thanda. Neighbours rushed Balaji to a private hospital in Warangal city, where he died during treatment three days later.
Police registered a case based on a complaint filed by Balaji’s father, Harichander. An investigation is underway, said SI Chander.
