HYDERABAD: A joyous wedding celebration turned into a heartbreaking tragedy in Andhra Pradesh’s Eluru district when a woman died following a medical emergency during the festivities.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night in Chintalapudi mandal, where the marriage of a man’s brother-in-law was taking place. Amidst the celebrations, Jyotsna, the elder daughter-in-law of the household, suddenly complained of severe abdominal pain. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors, finding her condition critical, advised immediate transfer to another facility.
At the second hospital, a scan revealed that Jyotsna was pregnant. However, instead of developing in the uterus, the foetus had grown in her intestine, leading to internal rupture and heavy bleeding. Doctors performed an emergency operation late Wednesday night in an attempt to save her.
Although she regained consciousness and briefly spoke with her husband on Thursday morning, her condition quickly worsened and she passed away shortly thereafter, leaving her family shattered. Jyotsna is survived by her husband and a two-year-old daughter.
Grief soon gave way to anguish, as distraught relatives and family members gathered outside the hospital, alleging that negligence during the operation had caused her death. They staged a protest demanding justice and a full investigation into the circumstances leading to her demise.
In response, the attending doctor stated that Jyotsna’s condition was already critical when she arrived. “We informed the family that her survival chances were minimal. The surgery was performed on the husband’s insistence,” the doctor clarified.
Police reached the hospital to calm the agitated crowd and assured them that appropriate action would be taken if any lapses were found.
