Wanaparthy rape case accused gets 20-year jail term

Hyderabad: A court in Wanaparthy rape case on Tuesday sentenced the accused to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment after convicting him of raping a minor girl.

Wanaparthy district Principal Judge M.R. Sunitha delivered the verdict and also imposed a fine of ₹30,000, Superintendent of Police Sunitha Reddy said.

According to the police, the Wanaparthy rape case dates back to February 27, 2020. The victim, a Class 9 student from Lakshmithanda in Gopalpet mandal, was walking alone when the accused intercepted her.

He forcibly took her outside the village and raped her, police said. When the girl went missing, her parents began searching for her. They later found her crying near a hill.

The victim narrated the incident to her mother. Subsequently, her mother filed a complaint at Gopalpet police station on the same day.

Police registered a case and launched an investigation. Sub-Inspector Raman Goud conducted the probe under the supervision of then Circle Inspector Surya Nayak.

Wanaparthy rape case investigation and trial

Investigators collected technical evidence and recorded the victim’s statement in the Wanaparthy rape case. They arrested the accused and sent him to judicial remand.

Police later filed a charge sheet in court. Subsequently, officers ensured that witnesses appeared during the trial.

Current CI Ratnam, SI Jagan, and court liaison staff coordinated to present evidence effectively. As a result, the prosecution strengthened the case.

Public Prosecutor Srinivasachari argued the case before the court. Therefore, the court found the accused guilty based on the evidence presented.

Wanaparthy rape case verdict and response

The court confirmed that the charges in the Wanaparthy rape case stood proven. It then awarded 20 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a monetary penalty.

SP Sunitha Reddy said strict punishment in such cases would create fear among offenders. She added that such verdicts act as a deterrent against serious crimes.

Moreover, she said the justice system ensures accountability and protection for victims. She stressed that police remain committed to delivering justice in such cases.

She also urged the public not to take the law into their own hands. Instead, she advised them to approach the police immediately in case of any wrongdoing.

The SP appreciated the efforts of police officers, the public prosecutor, and court staff. She said their coordinated work led to the conviction in the Wanaparthy rape case.
